Alfred G. Tichenor, 84, of Olmsted Falls, passed away February 21, 2017.
He was born in Eden, W. Virginia, the son of the late Alfred and Ruth (nee Hawkins) Tichenor. Alfred is the beloved husband of 27 years to Wilma (nee Emmerich); loving father of David (deceased), Alfred, Regis (deceased), Regina Niemann and Mary (Daniel) Battaglia and step-father of Ellen (Drew) Vaneck and Leonard (Diane) Frick; cherished grandfather of Roxanne (Chad) Haught, Jennifer (Robbie) Eddy, Alfred J. Jr., Shaunda Hall, Melissa and Sara Niemann, Ryan (Michelle) and Adam Frick, Kristen Giometti and Kara Vaneck, great-grandfather of Karla and Brittney Haught, Hayden, Isaac, Tanner, Parker and Madalyn Eddy, Emma, Landon and Brayden Tichenor, Gavin and Stella Niemann, Olivia Niemann, Alexandra, Daniel (deceased), Anastasia, Isabella and Elizabeth Hall, and Austin and Kaitlyn Frick and great-great grandfather of Addielynn and Deanna and Nathaniel, Zayden and Zoey; dear brother of Janet and the late Robert, Louise and Lou Tichenor; adored uncle of many; devoted companion of his Pomeranian, Penny. US Army veteran.
He was raised in the coal mines of West Virginia and later transferred to Cleveland where he was employed with Akzo (formerly Sterling) Salt Mine for 34 years. Alfred was an avid fisherman and would frequent Coe and Wallace Lake, Bonnie Park and Lake Erie with his wife, family, friends and his dog Penny. He and Wilma had a camp in Andover and spent a lot of time fishing and metal detecting in the area.
Visitation Friday, February 24, 2017 from 10-12PM in the Chapel at Sunset Memorial Park, 6245 Columbia Rd., North Olmsted, where funeral services will commence on Friday at 12PM. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St Clair Ave, Cleveland, OH 44110.
